Founded in 1612 by Daniel de La Touche, sir of La Ravardiere, São Luis became the only Brazilian city with French origin. In 1615, the Portuguese invaded the Fort of São Luis (originally named after the infantry Luis XIII, king of France), and later renamed as São Felipe. It owes its fame to its old houses made with glazed tiles, heritage of a prosperous economic phase. São Luis has a lot to offer and many historical places and monuments to teach us something of its History.
