Cabo Frio - RJ

Discovered by the Portuguese in 1503, Cabo Frio was settled on 1615 and is the seventh oldest city in Brazil. With over 500 years of history, for a long time the city economy was based on fishing activity and in the production of salt. From the construction of Ponte Rio-Niterói (70s of XX century) the city began to awaken to the tourism. In the 80´s with the discovery of oil in the "Campos Basin", the city began to receive substantial resources of "royalties", which allowed the government to establish guidelines for orderly growth and reorganization of the city, with considerable investments in infrastructure. Currently, tourism leads the economy of the city, followed by fishing and swimwear factory. Situated in the coastal lowlands southeast of Rio de Janeiro, where the coastline changes direction abruptly, the municipality of Cabo Frio extends over an area of 410,693 km ². The municipality is limited to the north by Casimiro de Abreu, south to Arraial do Cabo, west of São Pedro da Aldeia and Araruama and east by the Atlantic Ocean and Buzios. The city offers many pristine beaches, white sand dunes, one of the oldest fortress in Brasil, many restaurants and sports options such as surf, skate parks; besides being one of the biggest bikini producers in Brasil.
